At first the Department of Vyakara?a was divided into two sections—one is Pa?ini-Vyakara?a and another is Mugdhabodha-Vy?kara?a. In Pa?ini section, Govindaram Upadhyaya was the only professor. After December, 1827, this P??ini section was abolished. But the Mugdhabodha was running with its flying colours. Then Bhattikavya and the selected portion of Amar Kosha were in the syllabi of this department. Haranath Tarkabhushan, Taranath Tarkavachaspati, Ramdas Siddhantatarkapanchanan, Kirtichandra Nyayaratna, Gangadhar Tarkavagish, Hariprasad Tarkapanchanan, Dwarakanath Vidyabhushan, Ramgovinda Goswami, Pranakrishna Vidyasagar, Kashinath Tarkapanchanan, Girishchandra Vidyaratna, Madhav Chandra Tarkasiddhanta, Chandrakanta Tarkabhushan, Harinath Nyayaratna, Nandakumar Nyayachunchu et al the stalwarts of this department. And it is worthy of mentioning that Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was the student for three years of this Mugdhabodha Vyakara?a section in the time of Gangadhar Tarkavagish.
